Harpo

Harpo Mander is the Executive Director of 5X, a leading music and arts organization celebrating diasporic Panjabi culture in Metro Vancouver. As one of Canada’s youngest artistic directors, Harpo has transformed the South Asian music and arts landscape through her visionary leadership. Her work centers on amplifying South Asian artists, advocating for representation, and creating platforms for mentorship and global exposure. Under Harpo’s leadership, 5X Fest has grown into North America’s largest South Asian youth festival, showcasing emerging talent and fostering connections between artists and industry leaders. She has also driven systemic change by strengthening ties between South Asian musicians and national institutions. As Co-Chair of the JUNOS South Asian Music Committee, Harpo has championed increased visibility and funding for these artists. Harpo holds a BA in Sociology & Gender Studies from Simon Fraser University and an MA in Education & Society from McGill University, focusing on bicultural identities of first-generation Panjabi Canadians. Her academic insights enrich her work at 5X Fest. Recently, Harpo was appointed to the PavCo Board of Directors, becoming the first Panjabi woman in this role. Her efforts continue to shape inclusive spaces for creativity, representation, and community empowerment.
