Charlie Houston is a Canadian singer-songwriter whose music style can be described as genre-bending, indie pop with teeth. Growing up in rural Toronto, she began playing guitar at eight and later taught herself to produce. Whereas many singer-songwriters got their start performing covers, Charlie remained focused on “making something that didn’t exist before.” Her most recent songs, which are gearing up to the release of her debut album, showcase her dynamic songwriting range. From nostalgic folk to experimental alternative to rollicking punk, Charlie has never met a genre that she doesn’t like. Houston’s songwriting has always been deeply candid. Writing about anxiety, relationships and everything else that comes with growing up these days. Queerness is also an imperative part of who Charlie is. Houston wants her music to make people feel seen, understood and challenged.
