Alex Silverman is the Director of News & Programming for KNX News 97.1 FM, Southern California'sleading audio newsroom reaching a weekly audience of more than 1 million. Previously, he served as brand manager for KYW Newsradio in Philadelphia, where he has guided the iconic brand through a modern re-image and the historic launch of an FM simulcast, and served as Assistant Director of News and Programming at WCBS Newsradio 880. Silverman joined WCBS in 2011 and led coverage of major news events in New York and around the country, including Hurricane Sandy, the Boston Marathon bombings, and the Pulse nightclub shooting. In 2018, Silverman received a national Edward R. Murrow Award for his coverage of the transportation crisis in New York. From 2010-2011 he was a reporter and anchor at KIRO-FM in Seattle, and from 2008-2010 he was a reporter and morning news anchor at WSYR-AM in Syracuse, N.Y., where he graduated from Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. Silverman serves on the Board of Directors of the Radio Television Digital News Association, and has been an adjunct instructor at Fordham University, where he designed a course titled "Social Media for Journalists."
